School holidays needn’t be a nightmare, thanks to Supercook

With the school summer holidays upon us, many parents face the daunting challenge of how to keep the children entertained during those long weeks off. SuperCook has come to the rescue again, with its new and improved website that gives you a whole range of ideas to keep children of all ages busy for hours on end.

Whether it’s a cool recipe for a hot day in August, some delicious treats for a summer picnic in the park, or a fun activity to brighten up a typical British rainy day, SuperCook has everything you need to tempt children away from the TV and get them practising these all-important life skills – soon you’ll have your own little ‘Super Cook’.

With excitement at a high, it’s a good idea to plan activities for their excess energy in advance. SuperCook’s helpful new website,www.supercook.co.uk, is a great place to start, with hundreds of recipes and basic baking tips to give you inspiration. There’s also arts & crafts ideas to encourage children’s creative flair, and free stencils to download and use to decorate cakes with everything from stars and flowers, to bats and ghoulish ghosts!

Whatever the occasion, SuperCook has got an idea to inspire you to get stuck in, so why not try these easy-to-follow activities for hours of creative, tasty fun:

Ever-so-Easy Ice-Cream Sundae

Perfect for a sunny afternoon in the garden with friends.  

Ingredients

380g tub SuperCook EasyIce Chocolate Fudge Icing

A handful of strawberries and raspberries

1 apple

Your favourite ice cream

Squirty cream

SuperCook Shakers - candy or chocolate

Method

  1. Wash and pat dry a few strawberries, raspberries and an apple.  Remove stalks from strawberries and cut in half.  Remove core from apple and cut into small chunks. 
  2. Melt a tub of EasyIce Chocolate Fudge Icing as directed on pack and set aside.
  3. For each sundae, put a few bits of fruit in the bottom of a tall glass or sundae dish and add a scoop of your favourite ice cream. 
  4. Top with a good swirl of squirty cream and pour over the melted EasyIce Chocolate Fudge Icing.
  5. Sprinkle generously with Shakers, serve with a long spoon and eat up before it melts!

Picnic pleasures

Enjoy quality time together this summer and take the family for a picnic in the park. Help your little ones make these delicious Chewy Muesli Bars, put the food in the hamper, pack a blanket and off you go!

Ingredients

100g (4oz) unsalted butter

100g (4oz) light brown sugar

75g (3oz) golden syrup

250g (9oz) sugar-free muesli

2.5ml (½ tsp) SuperCook Natural Vanilla Extract

200g sachet SuperCook EasyChoc Milk Chocolate Flavour or 200g SuperCook Scotbloc Milk

Chocolate Flavour Covering

SuperCook Chocolate Strands

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas Mark 4.  Grease and line a 18cm (7 inch) cake tin.
  2. Place sugar, butter and golden syrup in a saucepan and heat until gently melted.
  3. Remove from heat and mix in muesli and Natural Vanilla Extract.  Press into prepared tin and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbling.  Leave to cool completely. 
  4. Melt EasyChoc or Scotbloc according to the pack instructions and cover each bar.  Sprinkle with Chocolate Strands and set aside to cool.

Party Cards

SuperCook’s products aren't just for recipes; they can be used in other fun ways too. Add a little sunshine to a miserable day by getting creative outside of the kitchen. Put a personal touch on invitations or cards for your friends and family – all you need is a steady hand!

Here's what you need:

SuperCook Writing Icing or SuperCook Barbie Glitter Writing Gel

SuperCook Hundreds & Thousands or another SuperCook decoration of your choice

Coloured or white card - big enough to fold and stand up

Glue

Here's what to do:

  1. Fold the card in half and check it stands up.
  2. Draw or trace your design onto the front of the card.
  3. Use the Writing Icing or Glitter Writing Gel to follow the outlines of your design.
  4. Put glue in the areas where you want to sprinkle the Hundreds & Thousands or other SuperCook decorations of your choice such as Silver Balls, Sugar Strands or Barbie™ Sprinkles.
  5. Once you have finished your design lay the card flat and leave for 30 minutes until dry.
